Who we are

Select Sidmouth (selectsidmouth.com) is operated by J Sharp, trading as Select Sidmouth, [BUSINESS ADDRESS]. We are the data controller for personal data collected through this site. Contact: hello@selectsidmouth.com.

What we collect and why

  • Enquiries: your name, email and message when you use our contact form, so we can reply (legitimate interests).
  • Membership enquiries: your name, email, business details and phone number, so we can discuss membership with you (steps before entering a contract, and legitimate interests).
  • Business members: account, billing and listing details, to provide the membership and your listing (contract). Card payments are processed by our payment provider; we do not store card numbers.
  • Newsletter: your email address, only with your consent. You can unsubscribe at any time.
  • Website use: technical data such as IP address and cookie data, to run and secure the site. See our Cookie Policy.

How we store your data

Contact details from our forms are kept in our website database and our customer relationship management system, which is hosted on our own website. Our website host is 123-reg.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your data. We share it only with service providers who help us run the site (such as our host, email provider and payment provider), or where the law requires it. If you accept Statistics or Marketing cookies, Google receives data through Google Analytics and Google AdSense; see our Cookie Policy. Some of our links to Booking.com are affiliate links, run through CJ Affiliate (Commission Junction). When you click one, you pass briefly through CJ’s tracking service on your way to Booking.com. CJ records the click, including technical data such as your IP address, browser type and the time of the click, so that Booking.com can tell that a booking came from our site. We receive commission reports from CJ, but we do not receive your name, contact details or payment details. Once you reach Booking.com, its own privacy policy applies. CJ’s privacy policy explains how CJ uses click data. When you follow a link to any other website, that site’s own privacy policy applies. See our affiliate disclosure. Our interactive town map loads the Leaflet map library from cdnjs (run by Cloudflare) and map tiles from OpenStreetMap; both receive your IP address in order to deliver them.

How long we keep it

We keep personal data only for as long as we need it:

  • Contact and membership enquiries: up to [24 months] after our last contact with you, then deleted.
  • Newsletter: until you unsubscribe. We then keep your email address on a suppression list so that we do not email you again.
  • Business members: account and listing details for the length of the membership. Billing and accounting records are kept for at least five years from 31 January following the tax year they relate to, as HMRC requires.
  • Job adverts and offers submitted by members: shown until their closing or expiry date, and kept for [12 months] afterwards.
  • Form security: our form software records the IP address of each submission to help prevent spam and misuse. It is kept with the submission and deleted with it.
  • Google Analytics: if you accept Statistics cookies, user and event data is deleted automatically by Google after 14 months.
  • Cookie choices: your cookie preferences are remembered for 30 days, after which we ask you again.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask to access, correct or delete your data, object to or restrict how we use it, ask for a copy to take elsewhere, and withdraw consent at any time. Email us to make a request. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk).
